NCAA Verses California

NCAA Verses California     Currently, there has been a great deal of discussion about college athletes getting paid. This has been debated for several years now. One side says players should get paid because they bring in so much money for the school but they aren’t getting any of it. On the other hand, some say that players get paid by the school giving them scholarships. This has been talked about for a while now, but now we are actually seeing some change. California has passed a law that allows athletes to hire agents and sign endorsement deals. This goes against the rules of the NCAA, but it also brings more attention to the matter.     The law is set to go into effect in 2023. Gavin Newsom who is a democratic governor who signed the law said, “colleges and universities make millions, often at great risk to athletes’ health, academics, and professional careers” ( CLICK HERE to read the article, and see more quotes from Governor Newsom). The Case of the Missing Birds

Image
Brian Nummy The Case of the Missing Birds Birds are one of the most diverse species on the planet. They can live almost everywhere. So then why is their population decreasing by the billions? The cause of most of our environmental crisis happening right now are from human activity. North America alone has lost about 2.9 billion birds since 1970. That is a decline of 29%. Several scientists have said this is a direct reflection of what we are doing to our environment.  So what exactly does the decrease in the birds population tell us? Birds are considered an indicator species, they reflect the health of the ecosystem. Birds are normally on the top of their food chain as well. So when we see their population drop this intensely, it shows that something is wrong. Deforestation is removing places for birds to live. Insect and amphibian populations are also seeing similar drops for the same reasons.  There are some efforts however to help protect some bird populations,

Brian Family HIstory

Brian Nummy My Family History     My name Brian is a very traditional name from Scotland, which is also where my last name comes from. Knowing that it is probably not a surprise that I have a deep Irish/Scotish heritage. The Nummy family has been in the United States for a very long time, but my grandmas family came over around 1915 from Poland through Ellis Island. My grandma believed that both her family and my grampas family came here to avoid troubles in their home country. They left Scotland when the English were trying to take it over. The family from Poland left because of problems with the Portestant Catholics.      I asked my grandma if her grandparents faced any troubles fitting in since they came to America not that long ago. When they came over they settled in a predominantly polish community. Because of this, they fit in pretty well. Almost the entire community spoke polish. This made it easy to keep family, and cultural values alive. My grandma loves to cook and
